In Scandinavia, You Can Do More

The homeland of ISTRAIL is Scandinavia. Since the company’s inception, we have been producing trailers and bodies tailored to the road conditions in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. From a road transport perspective, this market is quite specific.
Many European drivers, when visiting Norway for the first time, are surprised by the appearance and construction of the trucks and trailers they encounter on the local roads. This is due to the fact that one of the Scandinavian specialties is significantly higher permissible total weights for combinations compared to Southern Europe.
Norway
For example, on certain roads in Norway, combinations with a total weight of 60 tons are allowed, provided the length of the combination does not exceed 24 meters. Therefore, trailers with drawbars that are much longer than those commonly seen in countries like Poland are common. A relatively short trailer pulled by a truck can have a drawbar longer than 4 meters. On other Norwegian roads, the maximum total weight of a truck with a trailer or a tractor with a semi-trailer is 50 tons, which is 10 tons more than in Poland.
Sweden and Finland
Sweden has gone even further. On most Swedish roads, vehicles with a total weight of up to 64 tons are allowed, and on selected roads, up to 74 tons. In Finland, vehicle combinations with a total weight of 76 tons and a length of 34.5 meters can travel almost anywhere.
Poland
Polish standards, in comparison to the examples mentioned, are less impressive. To remind you: the length of a truck cannot exceed 12 meters, and in the case of a tractor with a semi-trailer, the length cannot exceed 16.5 meters. The largest permissible combination is 22 meters (truck and two trailers). This, however, is far from Scandinavian norms.
ISTRAIL – A Synonym for Quality
These differences lead to some important conclusions. First, when producing bodies and trailers for Scandinavian customers, we do not compromise on material strength because only this guarantees the highest quality for such large combinations. We apply the same principle to vehicles and bodies intended for the Polish market. Brake systems, suspensions, and tipper body drives designed for the Scandinavian market can easily handle the conditions in other countries as well.
Second, certain designs found on the secondary market in Scandinavia are not suitable for use in Poland due to their dimensions, which exceed the limits allowed in Poland. For this reason, we produce variants of vehicles and bodies tailored to the needs of local carriers.
Our customers benefit from this unique advantage: designs built to withstand very heavy loads, when “slimmed down”, are exceptionally durable, resulting in longer service life, fewer breakdowns, and greater resistance to overloading.
