Bodies and trailers are our speciality. For decades, we have been exploring the technology behind their manufacture, looking for innovative solutions to increase load capacity, improve functionality and extend service life. We are able to achieve these goals in various product segments: from tippers mounted on trucks, tipper trailers and semi-trailers (including many variants of the ‘bathtub’ popular in Poland), low-loader trailers and semi-trailers, box-bodies and container bodies to so-called hook-lifts and swap bodies.
Thanks to our comprehensive range, we are the perfect partner for transport companies specialising in services for specific sectors of the economy, such as road construction. For subcontractors of road construction contracts, we can supply a complete range of vehicles and bodies covering most of their needs: special semi-trailers and trailers for asphalt transport, low loaders for the transport of heavy equipment, as well as tipper bodies for off-road lorry chassis to move earth, rubble, asphalt road construction waste, etc.
Solutions for transport companies
Road construction is just one of the many industries in which ISTRAIL products are proving their worth. Swap bodies are a way of reducing costs. For example, one chassis can be used during the growing season to transport woodchip branches from tree maintenance and in winter to spread sand and salt.
Hooklift-type bodies offer similar functions, with the added option of fast loading without the need for a crane. Another of the many possibilities are containers with a reinforced construction, suitable for transporting scrap metal, rubble, waste and recyclable materials.
We offer all this in true Scandinavian style: our products are simple yet sophisticated, functional and durable, high quality yet affordable. We produce for drivers and hauliers because we understand their needs and point of view best. This is our business DNA.
A recipe for successful cooperation
This has many advantages: one contract, one supplier, attractive prices and simple financing. Add to this the compatibility of many components, specialised service, friendly and competent advisers who know the intricacies of the operation of all our products, and you have a recipe for successful cooperation.
The homeland of ISTRAIL is Scandinavia. Since the company’s inception, we have been producing trailers and bodies tailored to the specific road conditions of Norway, Sweden and Finland.
Many European drivers are surprised by the appearance and design of the trucks and trailers they encounter on Norwegian roads when they first visit Norway. This is due to the fact that one of the Scandinavian specialities is the considerably higher permissible gross vehicle weights of trucks and trailers than in southern Europe.
Norway
For example, on some roads in Norway, 60 tonne trailer combinations are permitted, provided that they are 24 metres long. You will therefore find trailers with drawbars that are considerably longer than those we are used to in Poland, for example. A relatively short trailer towed by a lorry may have a drawbar length in excess of 4 m. On the rest of Norway’s roads, the maximum permissible gross weight of a lorry with trailer or truck tractor with semi-trailer is 50 tonnes, 10 tonnes more than in Poland.
Sweden and Finland
Sweden has gone even further. Vehicles with a total weight of up to 64 tonnes can be driven on most roads there, and up to 74 tonnes on selected roads. In Finland, on the other hand, combinations of vehicles with a total weight of 76 tonnes and a length of 34.5 m can drive virtually anywhere.
Poland
Polish standards, compared to the examples cited, are not impressive. As a reminder: the length of a lorry must not exceed 12 m, and 16.5 m for a tractor unit with semi-trailer. The maximum length of a three-vehicle combination (car and two trailers) is 22 metres. Still, this is a far cry from Scandinavian standards.
ISTRAIL – a synonym for quality
There are some important lessons to be learned from these differences. Firstly, when producing bodies and trailers for Scandinavian customers, we do not economise on the strength of the materials, because this is the only way to guarantee the highest quality for such large combination vehicles.
We apply the same principle to vehicles and bodies intended for the Polish market. Brake systems, suspensions or tipper body drives that perform well in Scandinavia will also perform well in other countries.
Secondly, some designs found on the second-hand market in Scandinavia are not suitable for use in Polish conditions, as their dimensions do not fit within the limits applicable in Poland.
For this reason, we produce vehicle and body variations tailored to the needs of local hauliers. Our customers benefit from this in a unique way: constructions designed for very high loads after ‘slimming down’ are extremely robust, which translates into: longer service life, fewer breakdowns and greater resistance to overloading.
